The Educator’s Essential Guide, Montessori Children's House has assisted untold teachers and parents in helping children find, nurture and sustain their creativity, gifts and passions. Based on many years of observation and experience in Montessori classrooms and other preschool learning environments, this easy-to-follow observational and activity guide easily integrates into the pre-existing primary classroom.
This book is divided into four chapters:
Chapter I What You Need to Know: Sharpens your vision and perception of the many ways children can create and gives you an overview of the dominant forms of creativity, also known as creative intelligences.
Chapter II How to Find Each Child’s Creative Intelligences: Provides you with an in-depth description of what each creative intelligence looks like in a young child, followed by an easy-to-follow observation checklist to assist you in finding and monitoring each child’s dominant form(s) of creativity. The checklists are reproducible, so you can continue to track your students as they grow and change.
Chapter III Furthering Creative Activities within a Montessori Environment: Gives you a list of the types of activities that will help nurture each of your students’ creative intelligences. These activities can be offered to the children in a number of ways, depending upon your time and resources. For example, once each child’s dominant forms of creativity are discovered through classroom observation, supporting activities can be accomplished in a number of ways. They can be:
- Executed within the classroom as special activities or learning centers
- Provided to your daycare staff to execute activities
- Offered to your parents as activities to do with their children
Chapter IV Fine Tune Your Observations: Gives you an additional box of tools with which to observe the child before you.
Reproducible Activity Forms: This book is designed so you can copy and use these worksheets to document each of your student’s developing forms of creativity, gifts and passions. Do not write on the originals. We give you permission to reproduce these copies as many times as you want within an individual classroom. We recommend you retain and file all your documentation in a notebook for each student for future reference.
